Something more precious than fine ore…
The road so far…
My name is Ty, owner of the Fine Nine Mine. My first home was in a log cabin my Dad built on site of the family Gold mine on the Merced River just outside of Yosemite. After World War 2 my Grandpa moved out west to follow his dreams of being a gold miner and struck a claim with his brothers. He eventually lived most of his life on the claim without modern luxuries such as electricity, just a landline and a humble abode to call home while he maintained the roads and the property. He was a interesting guy and I’ll be sure to share some stories about him on the Blog that this website will eventually have.
My Grandma moved to the claim with my Dad and Uncle around the time my Dad was 5 years old. Growing up the family worked together taking care of the claim and living the old fashioned life. In may ways they were the last of the Pioneers Of Yosemite.
The Renaissance Woman
My Mom’s side of the family was from the city but loved the outdoors. I’ll write about some of this in the blog but to give you an idea of my background into making rings and wire wrapping stones I need to tell you a bit about my great grandmother on my Mom’s side of the family.
My great grandmother had a gift that I believe she passed on to her children and that still trickles down through the generations of the family. She was a gifted artist that could make sculptures and paintings with amazing detail with no schooling in the arts. Eventually my Grandpa helped finance a class to learn a technique to baked cloth into the sculptures, you can hear him talk about it and see some of her art in the video down below. I will add more stories and photos in the upcoming blog on this website in the future.
Fine Nine Rings & Jewelry
For me music has always been my first passion but making coin rings and wire wrapping gemstones gives me solace in connecting with both sides of my family. I get the precious metals and art all in one that keeps me connected to my roots. I look forward to learning more about metalsmithing and want to continue to grow and use this site as a way to display some of my creations as well as write about my family history and continue the legacy. As of now all the items for sale are made to order aside from a few wire wrapped pendants and rings. Each coin is unique like a fingerprint and act has it’s own history, for me it’s a pleasure working with these to create a piece of art that has traveled through multiple hands to finally make a home on yours.
